Unfortunately, Milwaukee will probably start to rise up in the ranks, due to the increases in violent crime that have occurred between 2005 and 2007. There is no good solution to fixing the problems with violent crime, however, and no matter what happens, it will always result in more violence.
Milwaukee has been taking steps in the past years, however, ho help stem the increase, such as an increase in after-school programs for kids to keep them off the streets, and putting more officers on the streets to keep peace.
However, Milwaukee Public Schools needs to work a little harder, as in the past few years, they have closed schools and cut budgets, which will all work to the detriment of the city, since having an education can lead to more success in finding a job and not having to live on the street. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Milwaukee was the 7th poorest city in the U.S., and a high poverty rate leads to a higher crime rate, and less opportunities for children living there.
Note that in the report by Morgan Quitno, Milwaukee does not even make the top 25 most dangerous cities list. Although it is based off of the Uniform Crime Report published by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, it may not be entirely accurate, as it looks at crime overall, and doesn't take into account factors such as population density, plus it only looks at cities over 75,000 in population.
