I, personally, feed my dog a mixture of the two. I know there are benefits to both canned food and dried, bag food so I came to the conclusion that if I fed him both, he would get twice the nutrients he needed in his diet! But then I came across another dilemma, what type of each food? There are so many different terms - complete, complementary, flakes, what did they all mean? What is the recommended dog food for my pet?
I guess the answer to this question rather depends on how much you know about each different type. Complete, as an example, is a type of food for your dog that has everything in it, there are no extra food stuffs that your dog needs to completely fulfill his dietary needs. I guess this one would be the cheapest option, because you only need to buy one type of food instead of a couple to make sure he gets everything he needs. Complementary foods come with all the nutritious stuff too, but it needs to be added to another complementary product, meaning you have to buy two different products. Flaked is a complete product, but with a mixture of meat and cereals, cooked separately, all mixed together and dried. With all of these different types, it's hard to know which ones are best for your dog.
You could visit your local vet and find out what is a recommended dog food for your dog. You vet will be able to tell you the exact food stuffs and supplements, if any, that your dog will need in order to be completely fit and healthy. The only downside to this is that he or she may try and persuade you to buy a product from the Veterinary Practice that seems wildly overpriced.
