Originally from the Detroit area, Demetrius Flenory stood before the United States District Court in Detroit to enter his guilty plea. The judge presiding over the case is Judge Avern Cohn.
In the court documents, Flenory stated that he was the leader of a business involved in criminal activities. He admitted that he was in control from 1990 until 2005 and that the business entailed the transporting and selling of controlled substances. Of the drugs sold, it is stated that the main substance was cocaine. He stated that the business and he himself received millions of dollars from the sales. Flenory then admitted that his real estate purchases as well as his vehicles and jewelry were obtained with the illegal funds.
'30 years to life in prison' is the possible sentence that Flenory will receive through the plea agreement. He also said yes to a judgment that totals $270,000,000 that he will be required to pay to the court. The sentencing hearing date has not been set as of yet. That date will be set by Judge Cohn.
The brother of Demetrius Flenory, Terry Flenory, as well as five others being held on similar charges is set to be tried on November 26, 2007. Originally there were 41 individuals, not including the brothers, indicted on drug charges. Of the 41, 32 have already pleaded guilty.
The Black Mafia Family is a drug organization run by the two Flenory brothers in Detroit, Michigan. It began in the early 1990's and dealt mainly in cocaine but also distributed other drugs as well. Later the 'Family' branched out to service other areas such as Atlanta, Georgia; St. Louis, Missouri; and Los Angeles, California. The name Black Mafia Family did not arise until 2001, when the brothers started referring to the business as such.
