There are some people in America, like me, with no immediate family. I have no brothers, no sisters, no husband, no children, and no parents and the first few years after my parents passed away, I did not even want to think about the big Holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas because it was hard to spend them alone. Everyone that I had spent every Holiday in my life with had passed away because not only had my parents passed on, but all of my aunts and uncles who were always at our house for the holidays were gone also.

Through the years I have learned how to deal with the holiday emptiness in what I think is a very positive way. First of all, I have spent every holiday for the last 10 years or so, of my life with my best friends and their family. Now when I remember the holidays with my parents it is much easier to smile instead of cry because I not only share those memories with my friends who also knew my parents, but I can be truly thankful for the wonderful friends that I have now and completely enjoy each holiday I spend with them.

Takeaways
  • Family IS anyone and everyone you love and enjoy spending time with,
  • God loves you and HE will find a way to give you many blessings
  • Start your own traditions this holiday season
