Six-Sigma is a concept that was introduced by Motorola to identify and eliminate some defect such as waiting time or anything that creates excess costs to a company. Companies from all business fields have taken Six-Sigma and constructed it to fit their specific business model. Most companies are taking Six-Sigma process and combining Lean principals with to further eliminate waste and improve business operations.

Health care organizations can use Six-Sigma to cut-down patient wait times and improve normal procedures to reduce expenses and improve customer satisfaction. The magnificent aspect of Six-Sigma and Lean principles is that every cost and second matters for improving a process within a business environment.

As you're introduced to some variation of Six-Sigma just remember that defining the project for business metric is important because if it doesn't save money or improve a process then time is wasted for the employees involved and the organization.

Organizational improvement is paramount in this day and time with so many companies competing for customers. However, Six-Sigma practitioners shouldn't focus on all the traditional statistical methods for improving a process instead focus on making a business process more efficient and examine all possible ways to eliminate expenses. Creating a fish-bone diagram is excellent where you can list the objective and build all possible causes around it to examine all possible ways to eliminate waste within an organization.
