I have become rather addicted to Christmas shopping online. Each passing year I buy more and more Christmas gifts online. It just makes sense. I usually don't have to pay sales tax. I save gas money and an unbelievable amount of time. I don't have to fight traffic or obnoxious crowds.

But possibly the best part of Christmas shopping online is the ability to find that perfect gift for everyone on my Christmas list. I'm not limited to stores in my local area anymore. Whatever a person's hobby or passion, there is an online store that will provide the perfect gift.

Check out shopping comparison engines when buying a specific item. These engines are extremely nifty when online shopping. Most of them will show a list of stores with the item and will list the price. Many of them will also list shipping charges, if any, and give ratings based on other people's online shopping experiences with each online merchant.

Shop early to be on the safe side. Even before Thanksgiving is a good time to start online shopping for Christmas. But definitely don't do your online Christmas shopping any later than two weeks before Christmas. This is especially important if you are buying the Christmas season's hottest toy or electronic gadget. Otherwise, you could end up empty-handed and be forced to brave the Christmas crowds in person.

Avoiding mishaps is another reason to do Christmas shopping online early. Although online merchants are becoming extremely reliable and shipping is surprisingly quick, things can still go wrong. The wrong item may be delivered, it could arrive damaged, or there could be a shipping delay. These are the cons to online shopping. If you do your online Christmas shopping early, you can avoid most of these problems.

Many online Christmas merchants offer additional shopping perks. Some offer gift wrapping for a modest fee, or even for free. Others will add gift cards. Often online stores have special online Christmas promotions that give away free gifts, gift cards, or some other added value when you make a purchase. Search out these stores to get the biggest bang for your Christmas buck.
