Going off to College for the first time is lots of fun. We all hear storys about partys, Fraternities, and Sororities before we even get to college. What I liked most about college was people watching. The popular people in High School often find that they are one of thousands of other students, or they may be the next Homecoming Queen. The class nerd may become popular and gain new notoriety. Students come and go all year long so each semester you have a chance to meet new people and make more friends.

One of the biggest decisions besides classes is whether or not to join a social club. Social clubs are good in that they make you part of a group. You will develope strong relationships with your fellow sisters and brothers that may last a lifetime. Many social clubs volunteer in the community, or help area fundraisers. Some of the fraternity brothers in my area volunteer to read books with students in the public school. There are a lot of kids with absent dads and this gives them a chance to learn from a positive male role model.

If you plan to join a social club then you need to be prepared. When you arrive on campus make friends with the other students and find out what social club you feel the most comfortable with. It helps during Rush if they already know you. Make sure they know your name and where you are from. Introduce yourself to social club officers. Try to make a good impression. If your mother, father, sister, or brother was in a sorority or fraternity you may be considered a Legend and normally will receive an invite from that club in addition to others.

Rush is hectic. For the girls it normally means lots of partys and formals. Make sure you take suitable clothes and shoes for Rush so your mother is not trying to ship a package of clothes to you, or you are not trying to shop for clothing at the last minute. For the men dress is not quite as formal. Some fraternitys may require a suit but most of the time casual wear is acceptable. There will be a lot of partys to go to while still attending classes. Try to get as much rest as you can. If you work you might ask to be off during Rush week, or Hell week in some schools.

It's nice that some of the Fraternities and Sororities do volunteer work in their community,
