According to a press release from PRNewswire, Actor Dick Wilson, aka Mr. Whipple, best known as the grocer and his phrase "Please don't squeeze the Charmin", has died of natural causes at the age of 91.

Procter & Gamble's long time Charmin pitchman was first introduced as Mr. Whipple in 1964. Wilson went on to star in more than 500 Charmin commercials during the next 20 years. In 1978, he was the 3rd most recognized person in America followed by Billy Graham and Richard Nixon. When Charmin celebrated its 70th birthday in 1998, Wilson helped them celebrate by allowing consumers everywhere to finally "Squeeze the Charmin".

Besides his long career in commercials, he was also an actor on television shows and movies. He acted in "Planet of the Apes," and television sitcoms like, "Maude," "Bewitched," and "The Partridge Family."

Procter & Gamble is making a contribution to the Kennedy Center for the performing arts in Wilson's name in honor of his love of the arts, culture and performance.

Boy, do I remember those ads, and his guest spots too (although probably not all of them). 91? Lordy, I must be getting old too! Great job!
