The latest in celebrity news is for once not about Lindsay, Britney or Paris. Although it's nice for a break, this break is one that should not have happened in the first place. Latest reports come from the birthmother of a famous celebrity baby, and are upsetting to all who read them.

Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt was born on January 8, 2005 in Ethiopia. Given up for adoption as a newborn, she was taken into the home of Angelina Jolie and her son Maddox in July of 2005 and was later also adopted by Brad Pitt. Since her adoption she has gained a sister, Shiloh and a new brother, Pax. As the smily, comical, adorable brown-haired daughter of famous parents, she has become a household name throughout the world.

Mentwabe Dawit, the woman who gave birth to Zahara, recently had an interview where she exposed the past of the little girl, her biological child. She states that as she was walking home one night after her job as a construction worker, she was attacked at knife-point by a man who then proceeded to rape her. As a result of said rape, she conceived a child that she named Yemsrach, later renamed Zahara. Her immediate plan was not adoption, she had planned to care for the baby. But after realizing she could not provide for a child, she fled, leaving a starving newborn with her mother. Her mother, fearing for the child's life, made the brave decision to place the child for adoption to give her a fighting chance at life. Zahara was later adopted by Angelina Jolie and moved to the United States, where Brad Pitt also adopted her, becoming her legal father.

The story that little Zahara was conceived from rape is one that stings almost all who hear it. It tears at your heart and brings tears to your eyes to read the news story and then look over to see this beautiful child who was brought into this world in such an act of violence and to think of what her mother went through. Rape victims themselves take years to heal from what happened, and even then it never goes away. Yet when there is a child of rape that is affected, how do they heal?

I agree. That info shouldn't have been blasted all over the world.

I'm aware of all that you stated. However it doesn't take away from the fact that the whole world now nows something that should be private. At least until one is willing to share it. This was shared without her consent. It's her story and nobody elses.

This is a curious article. You may be unfamiliar with the adoption process, but all over the world children are born of rape, incest or of circumstances their mothers can't even recall every day. It may be a painful truth for a child to learn the circumstances of his or her birth, but the value of one's life is never defined by the circumstances of one's birth, which for everyone is a matter of chance anyway. I am quite certain Zahara's adoptive parents, like so many others, are raising their child to place value on who she is and who she becomes.
