Democratic candidate for president Congressman Dennis Kucinich addressed a group of about 60 voters today at a town hall style meeting held at the University of New Hampshire. Kucinich used the event to frame his efforts to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney as part of a wider effort to preserve democracy in America. He made frequent references to the founding principles found in the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, telling those gathered that it was time for the country to shift from de-democratization to re-democratization.

Earlier this month Kucinich grabbed the nation's attention by bringing the issue of impeachment up before the House of Representatives. At the time the proposal was tabled due to opposition from the Democratic leadership in Congress. Kucinich told the crowd that impeachment is a part of our democratic system of checks and balances.

The Congressman said he takes the process of impeachment seriously and was prepared to present a vast body of evidence to prove his point. "Vice president Dick Cheney violated his oath of office by claiming that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction," he said. He went on to say that Cheney had also lied to America by alleging that Iraq played a role in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Kucinich said that he believes that putting Cheney on the stand under oath would allow the nation to ask the vice president important questions about the build up to the war in Iraq. He also said that he thinks that it would be particularly interesting to ask Cheney about the role that oil industry leaders played in the decision making process that led to the war in Iraq.

Kucinich told the crowd that the threat of a new war against Iran was a key factor in his decision to attempt to push the impeachment of Cheney forwards. He said that $10 million was being spent to retrofit American bombers so that they could carry bombs capable of penetrating deeply buried bunkers. Kucinich presumed that this program had been created to pave the way for the bombing of alleged nuclear sites in Iran.

After reading Deez's article about the Euro today where he mentioned stories of Cheney's plan to stage another terrorist like act, I started rethinking impeachment. I have been bothered for a while that there might be another war and GWB calling off the election, using executive powers in time of war. I still not believe Dennis could garner enough support from Congresspeople to make impeachment a reality. Applause for Romney's "GWB always acted in the best interest of the people to keep them safe from terrorists" debate win scares me.

If both the president and vice president are impeached the next in line for the presidency is the speaker of the House of Representatives. So if Bush and Cheney were impeached Nany Pelosi would be president.

Excellent post and our organization Action4Justice has his speech before Congress on our front page: www.action4justice.com. Cheney and Bush should both be impeached and not permitted to end this lame duck term. We need a total change and "re-democratization" as you say and our Organization has decided to support Dr. Ron Paul for the next Presidency of the USA. Since our Political Party originated in Spain and is known as Action Por La Justicia (AXJ) we have decided to direct our message and support to the the Latino communities in the USA. AXJ-Latinos for Dr. Ron Paul. www.latinoronpaul.com

Were the owners of the bar pretty angry that he wasn't singing to the words on the screen?

Bush and Cheney set us up; you can not impeach one without impeaching the other. I do not know the chain of command, but whoever would be next in line to replace both~should the process be done anytime soon, which it can not~who would become Pres and VP? Someone handpicked by GWB. It is sad that Kucinich did not join Feingold and McKinney in pushing for impeachment two years ago. It would have been nice, since we are a government "of, for and by the people" if we all had demanded a special election and ousted the current admin with people of our choice; like yesterday.
