Many tourists' impressions of New York City include big cultural landmarks, gaudy shopping facilities, Broadway theaters, and other things which really don't have a whole lot to do with who the people of New York City are. If you are interested in getting out of your shell a little bit this Black Friday and staying away from all the shopping madness that goes on in Manhattan and you want to do something completely out of the ordinary that maybe you should consider the Ethnic Apple Bike Tour. If you're a resident of New York City but you rarely venture out of your neighborhood that may be like to consider this as well.

The Ethnic Apple Bike Tour challenges riders young and old, experienced and inexperienced alike to bike in the Big Apple. The Tour is a 16 mile bicycle jaunt through the neighborhoods of the East side of Manhattan, some of the neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Roosevelt Island, and a whole lot more.

Many people who come to New York city quite a bit never go any further east and then there Grand Central terminal. They will often take the train and walk straight over to Times Square and get lost in the glare and glaze of the klieg lights; but there really is so much more to the five boroughs which make up in New York City.

The East side of Manhattan itself is something of an anomaly. The East Side of Midtown; what some call the Lower Upper East Side by the Williamsburg Bridge is where this bike ride get started. From 69th St and 2nd Ave riders will often puff their way across the bridge into the Polish neighborhood of Greenpoint Brooklyn. Greenpoint is something of an anomaly on the trains as well as the only trains that really go into Greenpoint don't ever venture farther north than 14th St in Manhattan. The G train which is one of the major trains which cuts through Greenpoint actually starts in Queens and ends in Brooklyn so it never really makes it into Manhattan at all.

Very interesting article on New York City. It makes me want to visit NYC more because of its diversity. I wish that Chicago had the diversity that NYC has. I am looking forward to visiting.
