The best dog food for dogs has been a debate that has been going on for years, and I'm sure the issue won't be resolved for quite some time to come! Some people prefer dry, some people prefer wet and some use a mixture of both, just to be on the safe side. There are pros and cons for both, and the choice is generally up to you as a dog owner.

Dry food has been considered as the best dog food for dogs because of the benefits to a dog's teeth and gums. The chewing action used when chewing on dry food helps to strengthen the dogs jaw muscles and remove plaque and tartar build up on their teeth. It is also commonly known to calm the natural chewing urge that dogs experience. It is also good because it encourages the dog to drink more water, and we all know that water is good for every animal!

It is believed that without the occasional dry food entry into the diet, the dog can develop some pretty bad oral health problems because there is no abrasive action happening on the teeth. The food acts as a tooth brush and without it, not only will the plaque and tartar build up in the mouth cause bad breath, but it will also weaken the dog's teeth and could cause gum disease.

Wet food is believed to be beneficial because it mimics the diet found in the dog's natural habitat. The fats included in most commercial wet foods for dogs are helpful for the glossy coat and good skin, and there is a fair bit of protein generally found in them too.

There are also economic results to this question, as well as the health of the dog. Wet food tends to spoil quickly if not eaten, and it is not advisable to leave wet food in the dogs bowl, whereas dried food can be left there for longer. Wet food also tends to be more expensive. An average sized dog can go through a small can of dog food in a day, and a bag of dried food would last much longer. Dried food is also easier and cheaper to buy in bulk.
