As reported by Combined Joint Task Force, Coalition forces helped Afghan National Security Forces in an ambush started by the Taliban near Sarsina village. A large number of terrorists were killed in the ambush that didn't go as planned.

A scouting mission was underway by combined forces when the insurgents attacked the patrol with rocket propelled grenades and hand guns. The military, defending themselves returned fire with machine guns and small arms which had thee enemy backing up. The large group of enemy tried to out smart the armed forces and ducked into a building and trench that was close to their location. The move resulted in several Afghan civilians running from the area.

The military adjusted to contain the enemy in their location and called in for air support. Coordinates were given and air support destroyed the building in which the taliban were located as well as eliminating those that were trying to give support to the enemy.

"This engagement was yet another blow to the Taliban extremist fighters who are quickly losing their will to operate in Oruzgan province," said Army Major Chris Belcher, combined Joint Task Force-82 spokesman.

In other news on the Afghan front, William Wood came to visit the Farah province in a recent tour. He is the U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan. Within the few hours that Mr. Wood visited the area, he ate with Mullah Rahanni, head of the provincial Ulama Council, along with several other members of the council. After the meal, Provincial Governor Mawlawi Mohideen Baluch, Navy Commander Frank Hughlett, leader of the Afghan National Security Forces, and the Farah Provisional Reconstruction Team commander got a chance to talk with the ambassador.

After the meetings there was a press conference in which the ambassador sent a message out that focused on the American help that was being provided to the area around Farah.

"This province has been one of the largest recipients of United States economic assistance of all of the provinces of Afghanistan because of the importance of the province, and we intend to continue our commitment to Farah province." said Ambassador Wood.
