If you have recently been thinking about buying a dog, there is a good chance that you may have noticed that certain dog breeds can be very expensive. Even if you haven't been thinking about buying a dog, you may have noticed this. One of the things that you may be wondering is why certain dogs breeds are so expensive. This article takes a closer look at some of the possible reasons.

Why Certain Dog Breeds Are Expensive- Demand

One of the main reasons that dogs can be so expensive is because there is a demand for the specific dog breed. For example, if there was a certain movie that was recently released which had a character of a certain dog breed, it is likely that the demand for this dog breed would increase. One such example of this was the demand for Dalmatians right after Disney's 101 Dalmatians. When a certain dog breed is in demand, dog breeders are more likely to take advantage of those who may be interested in purchasing a puppy. When the overall demand of a certain dog breed fades, it is likely that dog breeders may decrease their prices.

Why Certain Dog Breeds Are Expensive- Availability

Dog breeds that are rare in a certain part of the world are known to be much more pricey than dog breeds that are very common. This sort of relates to the overall demand of a certain dog breed, as there is often a much higher demand seen for dog breeds which are rare. While one dog breed may not be very expensive in one area of the world where it is common, there is a good chance that it may be expensive in another area of the world.

Why Certain Dog Breeds Are Expensive- Rare Markings

For certain dog breeds, rare markings can be a very good thing. A few examples of this include the Akita and Australian Shepherd dog breeds, which are both recognized for rare and beautiful markings. If a certain puppy from a litter is viewed positively because of its rare and unusual markings, there is a good chance that the dog breeder may put a higher price tag on it than one of the puppies without rare or unusual markings. On the other hand, with certain dog breeds, it is often not considered "good" for the puppy to have unusual markings.

Good one. I adore my black German Shepherd, but am glad she has a small bit of Rottie in her. We are hoping that mix will fend off the notorious hip problems so prevalent in the Alsatian breed.

I like to just find strays or adopt from the pound. I just can't bring myself to pay that much money for an animal. Great article!

Wonderfully written. We have never had a dog because my daughter is allergic to them (even the "non-allergic" kind). Interesting read!
