Should a woman have the right to choose abortion?Catholic does not only disallow abortion, they take a step back further to disallow also the use of contraception. Protestant is widely divided into groups of no-no, yes-yes, and some in between of case by case permission.
Thailand law on abortion allows only for raped cases and health reasons. Underground abortion with substandard medical treatments has killed young girls in numbers each year. Safe illegal abortion is a privilege of the affluent few. Legislation has played a deaf ear or has been very slow in considering abortion law. Cries for speedy approval and shouts for disapproval of the Bill has been going on and off for decades.
In USA., the United States Supreme Court granted women the absolute right to abortion during the first six months of pregnancy and an unqualified right to abortion during the final three months as early as 1973. Suddenly, abortion ceases to be a crime and became a right. The number of legal abortion has increased drastically since.
Should women all have this equal right to choose abortion freely as their counterparts in USA? The issue really centers on the question of when human life begins. The answer is, indeed, crucially important. If life begins early at the time of conception, then abortion is murder. It is the violation of the commandment, "Ye shall not kill."
However, the issue is extremely complicated that no consensus can be derived from any respective disciplines of medicine, philosophy and theology. Ethical concerns such as the rightness or wrongness of abortion can draw no conclusion either. What shall we do?
The proper way in response to the Bible when the Bible is silence in a subject is to keep quiet. We should be obedient and accept the will of our Father if He seeks not to review Himself in a particular subject. Instead, we should simply seek His revelation in the subject in other appropriate part of the Bible.
