Oh Burning Kolkata!
The violence in the city erupted following a bandh observed by All India Minority Front (AIMF). They were protesting against Nandigram violence and demanding the cancellation of Bangldeshi writer Taslima Nasreen's visa.
During the bandh, on being eruption of a trouble, the protestors resorted to brick-batting and began pelting stones and empty glass bottles to their opponents. They burnt government vehicles and on go the situation out of hand; the government was forced to have deployed the Army forthwith to control the fury. For the eruption of the fury government itself is somewhat responsible because of its lackadaisical position about the expected coming situation. The violence can successfully be controlled if west Bengal government in truth intends to prevent it with the efforts of state police.
The Supreme Court and many High courts have also ruled against bandh, therefore, it might be better if the State government don't allow bandh in the state. Bandhs generally don't yield any concrete results despite paralyzing the normal life. If bandh was unavoidable issue for the government in consideration of Nandigram episode, they should have issued clear-cut guidelines to the state police. But the reality is that the state is breathing on the politics of bandhs and evidently law and order situation in the state is continuously deteriorating. Even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh too sadly had expressed it the 'most unfortunate turn'
