Most men don't consider looking after their face to be a priority, that's more a woman's province, as indeed is make-up. Although some men might be persuaded to apply a moisturizer, mascara would be anathema to them. Yet we shouldn't really separate products which look after our skin from products which enhance its appearance. Here are some hints to help with caring for and enhancing your epidermis.

Remember that whatever is applied to the face, whether a product of care or of enhancement, it all goes into the skin and so you should be careful as to what such products contain. You might be allergic to some of the constituents and certain chemicals in too high a concentration can be harmful.

Check your reaction by applying new products to a small, unobtrusive area initially to ensure that no adverse reaction occurs before applying any further.

Watch out that your products are not out of date. Expiration is as important when caring for your skin as when eating and the manner in which things are kept is just as critical to avoid spoilage, especially as certain things can go off sooner than their 'use by' date if badly kept.

Practice good hygiene whenever applying complexion enhancers or improvers. Any pencil-style applicators should be kept share and all utensils cleaned and maintained as a matter of regular routine. Any such hygiene regime should include the whole head and not just the face.

Caring for the hands should be included in any regime, and only quality products used, after a thorough cleansing. Nails must be buffed and shined and protective or even coloured lacquer applied. After this a nourishing serum ought to be massaged into the cuticle area.

Those whose eyes are set farther back in their sockets might benefit from using an aqueous product rather than a coloured crayon to line the eye, as this can stop distortions from occurring at the corners.
