Black Label Ham by Hormel comes in a convenient 1.36kg (3lb) can that opens easily and safely from the top without leaving sharp edges. This is good news for parents who want to protect their children from cutting themselves on sharp edges often left behind on cans. At $5.91, this is also a good price that is substantial enough to feed a small family.

Fully Cooked

One of the best things about buying this ham is that it is fully cooked and ready to eat, which is convenient for families who would rather save the time it takes to bake a frozen ham. Black Label Ham does not need to be frozen, but can be refrigerated straight from the supermarket until it is needed. There are many benefits to choosing this brand of ham. The product is fully cooked, which means it is ready to eat straightaway.

Taste

I like to eat this brand of ham from time to time, but I would not like to eat it regularly as it is far too salty. It has a slight smoky flavour to it.

Serving Suggestions

Black Label Ham by Hormel can be added to a split pea and ham soup within the last few minutes of cooking time. If you add it at the beginning, the ham will overcook and taste rubbery, rather than moist. The ham can also be served cold in a number of recipes. Cube it and add it to a traditional macaroni salad. If you would prefer to use this ham in a sandwich, simply slice the desired amount. These are just a few ways serve Black Label Ham by Hormel within a matter of minutes.

Leftovers

Leftover ham will keep fresh wrapped up and placed back inside the container for 7 days in the fridge. But if you will not be using the ham within a few days, it can be sliced and frozen and then thawed out when it is needed. This can help families to prevent wasting excess food.

Nutrition

There are 100 calories in every 84g serving of Black Label Ham by Hormel. The total saturated fat content is just 1g, which is lower than you might expect. There are 40mg of cholesterol and 1050mg of sodium, due to the curing process. Black Label Ham by Hormel is a good source of protein, as it contains 14g of protein in every serving.

We love ham. If you put it in a roasting pan, dump a beer over it, and cook at 350 with the lid on the saltiness comes out. (I prefer it heated up and not salty.) You can also use 7-Up or ginger ale (it's the carbonation that does the trick) but pop leaves the ham a little sweet. I prefer using beer, although I don't even drink beer. :)

I don't care for salty ham either, and I've often wondered about this brand. Thanks for the honest review.
