Trophy First Lady

Is America ready for a trophy wife as a first lady?

Hillary's got the "being a woman" strike against her; Barack's got the "being black" strike against him; and Dennis Kucinich and Fred Thompson have the same strike against them: their wives are just too pretty to be a first lady.

Sure, Jackie O was quite a looker, but she was more of a "cute" woman. She was thin and had a pretty face, but she didn't have the level of sexiness that Elizabeth Kucinich and Jeri Thompson Kehn have. Elizabeth towers over her goofy-looking husband, and Jeri, with her beautiful face and flawless skin, looks young enough to be her husband's daughter, but I doubt anyone looks at her face too much. (If you see a picture of her, you'll know what I mean.)

Despite their good looks, they're not bimbos. Jeri is an attorney and political consultant, and Elizabeth has dedicated a good part of her life to volunteer work. But will their looks affect their spouses' chances?

I honestly doubt Dennis Kucinich has a chance in hell, anyways, and I don't think he would be very well-respected by the leaders of other countries standing beside a woman almost a foot taller than he is (Though we elected a man who looks kind of like a confused monkey the last two elections, so if he did by some miracle win the presidency, I guess he really couldn't look much worse). Unfortunately for Mr. Kucinich, most of the press he has been getting has been about his beautiful wife, with little or no focus on any of his thoughts on the issues at hand.

Fred Thompson, on the other hand, hasn't got as much press about his wife, probably because he's been involved in the Hollywood scene, and anyone who's been in "the biz" ends up married to a gal that looks like she does. He's got a better chance, anyways, as he's currently tied with Giuliani in the polls (Though with as much "polling" as there is going on lately, there's no telling how accurate any of it really is). Americans do like the ex-movie star, too, but Nancy definitely looked more first-lady-ish.
