Ulcerative Colitis and other inflammatory bowel diseases are serious and can affect every part of your life. I personally don't suffer from any of these diseases but I do have a friend that does and s
he has learned to live with her disease she suffers from the disease of Ulcerative Colitis. She has agreed to tell me about her disease with the understanding and agreement that I do not disclose her name. I have agreed to keep that information confidential.

"It has been hard learning to deal with Ulcerative Colitis emotionally and physically. When you first start to experience some of the symptoms you think that maybe you ate something that didn't agree with you but when the symptoms get more sever you really don't know what to think.

You go to the doctor and they run an endless amount of tests on you trying to properly diagnose your illness. At first I just had an ulcer, a peptic ulcler that is in the lower intestines which causes bleeding. What brought it on? Stress from my everyday life. Well they gave me a prescription and told me what to eat and what not to eat and that I would be fine.

I did all that and everything was okay for a while but then my life got turned upside down and I was under a lot and I mean a lot of stress. I wasn't sleeping, I wasn't eating, and it was bad. Now through all this I had been going to the doctor regularly, my symptoms have gotten really more sever than before and finally they diagnosed me with having ulcerative colitis.

It is hard to except at first because you don't want to be one of those people that you have heard about who may have had an accident in public and then everyone knows, some of them even make fun of you because you were sick and couldn't make it to the bathroom in time. There is nothing funny about being sick.

People can be mean and crude because they don't understand that it is a very real illness. They should be glad that they don't suffer from some disease and that people aren't making fun of them.
