You've braved the Black Friday crowds and picked up all the cool things on your shopping list. Ipods, laptops and new phones fill your bags, all destined to be opened next month by your friends and loved ones. But now, you're feeling a little left out. You've never owned a laptop, you're still toting around a bag phone from the early nineties, and you think mp3 is how they rate gas mileage for hybrids. Never fear, there is a way to get newer technology without breaking the bank.

If you haven't noticed, retro is in. Car companies are bringing past names and designs to freshen their lots. Video games find new life and new profits in retro compilations, and 'retrosexual' has now entered the lexicon. As much as you wouldn't think so, retro can be applied to electronics and technology. With eBay and Goodwill stores brimming with older technology for cheap, now is the time to get in on the act.

Takeaways
  • Very capable cell phones are out there for cheap via auction
  • Older laptops can meet the needs of web-browsing and email.
  • If you don't have a use for it, donate it!
Did You Know?
Linux is a open-source operating system, meaning it is free. Why pay over $100 for an OS when you can get a very capable one for free?
