Here's a lovely disclaimer: I needed to add this as many of the moms apparently felt that I was declaring myself to be Ms. Perfect. I was not complaining that she dropped her kid. Kids and babies fall. The baby might roll over suddenly or flail himself so hard that WHAP! he or she hits the floor. What upset me was the tone of the post. The "ew-how-dare-my-kid-fall-and-I-am-NOT-gonna-take-him-to-doctor-even-though-he-passed-out" attitude. Most of us, our intitial reaction to a baby hitting the floor is "OH SHIT!" as you're grabbing twenty thousand items to shove into your bag as you run out the door to the ER. If the doctor at said ER tells you he's fine as he looks at you with that "ah, another over-reacting parent", then WHEW! Better safe than sorry. I know when my son first tossed himself over the crib, I was in full mommy mode and yeah the doctor gave me that eye roll as he told me my little man was fine, but after he hit his head he sent vomit projecting 3 feet away from the crib. I panicked! Lol. He was fine and that's all that mattered to me. My daughter bit threw her own chin in the park. She was right in front me toddling around as 2 year olds do, and tripped. We were on soft grass, but she was biting her lip. As I am brushing off grass from her clothing drops of blood begin to drip. She was crying so when I look at her face, I hit that mommy mode again. They stitched her up and as I sat there panicking, she FELL ASLEEP in the middle of getting stitches. She was fine, again all that matters. My kids have a half sister. I do not like her mother as she told me my kids were mistakes and should never have been born, but that baby girl who looks enough like my kids to make my heart melt... I would never hold her mom's words against her or their dad's dumbdumb moments against her either. How can I hate that little girl when she looks like the kids I raise and love? I am NOT ms. Perfect. I know my mommy faux-pas. I know what mistakes I make. I try and learn from them. That's what mistakes are for, to teach us how to grow and how to not make the same mistake later on.
