I don't know what it is, but there's something about a little midget that sounds like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, answering e-mails in boxing gloves and a Mexican wrestling mask that makes me feel all warm and squishy inside. Now I know what you're thinking. "HomestarRunner? What kind of stupid name is that? I gotta get back to sites with intelligent names, like Yahoo, YouTube and eBay."
Read on, my friends.
Below, I've included links to what I would consider 'iconic' StrongBad e-mails. These will give you a pretty good idea what all the fuss is about all on their own. To get the full experience however, you really have to go back and start from the beginning. But fist, who are these crazy people?
HomeStarRunner: The namesake for the entire site. He has no arms, talks with a lisp, loves marshmallows, and is dumber than a box of hair. In one cartoon he appears as the surprise guest and goes on to surprise himself on his own talk show. (Trivia: the seldom-seen 'Homsar' character was created from an e-mail in which someone misspelled HomeStar's name.)
StrongBad: The only reason I go to the site; this is the Mexican Wrestling Mask guy. Cartoons depicting him answering his e-mail have become a major (dominant?) part of the website. Truth be told, I haven't checked anything but the StrongBad E-mail page in years.
The Cheat: StrongBad's lackey. This little miniature Cheetah-like creature talks in squeaky sounds much like R2D2 spoke in whistles.
StrongMad: StrongBad's big brother. For some reason he only wears a wrestling-style spandex singlet, and seems to be mad all the time. It is not usually necessary to understand what he's saying - but if you can, it's hilarious.
StrongSad: He's depressed, and looks like a mix between The Michelin Man, an elephant, and an excessive amount of Ritalin. Which could possibly explain his constant depression. He's a genius, not to be recognized in his lifetime. Basically he's a whiny Goth kid.
(Can you guess which of the three above are brothers?)
There are other characters, but why read about them when you can just watch the cartoons? On with the fun!
Trogdor 'nuff said.
