"Enchanted" is like no other Disney fairy tale, and that's because the film mixes your classic Disney animated film with a modern live-action comedy. "Enchanted" is about a beautiful princess named Giselle (Amy Adams) who is banished by the evil queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) from the magical land of Andalasia.Giselle now finds herself lost in the not so magical land of New York City. Giselle finds herself in a city that is in need of some 'enchantment' and a happily ever after. When Giselle starts falling in love with the "dreamy," yet flawed divorce lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey) who came to her rescue when she first landed in Manhattan, even though she is about to get married to her perfect fairy tale prince, Prince Edward (James Marsden), she begins to wonder if a storybook romance can "live happily ever after" in the real world.
Though Patrick Dempsey is very charming in this soon to be classic Disney film, it's main star Amy Adams is the one who really stole the show. Her comedic timing, excellent singing voice and slight naive ness to the real world made this movie even more enchanting. Yet again, James Marsden is playing "the other guy" in the movie, but this time you weren't hoping he'd end up with the girl.
Kevin Lima. Director of "Enchanted," says that this film requires a juggling act" in order for the tone of this film to be right. "On one hand it's a romantic comedy, but then there are raucous, Disney send-up moments; there are also five songs and swashbuckling action-adventure elements, including a marauding dragon," explained Lima in an interview with a movie website.
When he was asked about the premise of the movie he said, "Everyone is out there looking for their true loves kiss, their dream come true, but what Giselle learns is that things are much more complicated in the real world. 'Enchanted' embraces the idea that your dreams really can come true in our cynical modern world." This is one Disney movie that both parents and children can enjoy watching together.
