After you've been married for a while - and especially after you have kids to raise - your relationship, lines of communication and sex life with your spouse can take a nose dive. Here are some ideas to tip the scales back in the right direction.

1. Take the time to really listen when your spouse is talking to you; turn off the TV, turn away from the computer, whatever it is you are doing - stop and look at them and truly listen to what they are saying.

2. Leave a message on a sticky note stuck to the computer.

3. String a banner with loving words (homemade if you choose) over the bedroom door.

4. Get out the photo albums or video from your wedding and talk about the way you met and what attracted you to your mate. Let them know you are still attracted to them.

5. Send a sexy e-card; it's sometimes easier to express yourself in written form.

6. Fill a jar with Hershey kisses and write something you love about your spouse on each tab of the candy.

7. Do a chore that your loved one usually takes responsibility for, freeing up their time for something they really want to do.

8. Dedicate a song to them on the radio, or write them a song if you're musically inclined.

9. Tell your spouse how much you love them and appreciate all the things they do every day to keep your lives and home running smoothly.

10. Make a cup of tea, cocoa, or coffee for them as they head off to work.

11. Drop love notes in their briefcase or purse.

12. Draw a nice hot bubble bath for them, and maybe even join them in the tub if the notion strikes. Then top it off with a nice long massage.

13. If you're a woman, put on your favorite shade of lipstick and kiss hubby's rear view mirror before he leaves for work. Just make sure to leave a paper towel in the set so he can clean the mirror ... and make sure to do it on a morning when he isn't running late for work!

14. Fix their favorite meal or dessert, use your good dinnerware to serve it on, and eat by candlelight.

15. Plan a weekend getaway without the kids and do something you haven't done since you were dating.

Takeaways
  • Rekindle the romance in your marriage.
  • After you have kids, your sex life can suffer.
  • Simple things can mean a lot to the ones you love.
