Avoid SunRocket Internet Phone Service

There Are a Lot of Internet Phone Services These Days. Here's One to Avoid

There are a lot of different Voice Over Internet Protocol phone services to choose form these days. What’s great about them is you can make as many long distance calls as you want to places like Canada and Puerto Rico and anywhere in the continental United
States for only one low monthly fee. Not a bad deal, with the one exception that you also have to have a high-speed internet connection. See, these phone services use your high-speed connection to transmit your voice.

There seems to be another new service popping up nearly every day. The one most people have probably heard of is called Vonage. I used them at one time. The problem I had was that my cell phone service turned out to be more cost-effective and I found cancelling with Vonage very difficult. When I finally did cancel my service with them, I felt it was ended on very bad terms. So, when I decided it was time to consider another VOIP service, I checked around. The one that sounded interesting to me was called Sunrocket. After a few months of trying this service I have some advice for those of you considering VOIP technology and phone services.

Avoid Sunrocket VOIP internet phone service as if it might shock you or cause your children to grow second or third heads. What a truly horrific disappointment this service and product turned out to be.

VOIP services use your high speed internet connection for phone use. The service is affordable and for a fee of about $25 a month you can make unlimited calls across the US, Canada and to Puerto Rico. It's great.

Stick with Vonage. They were the first and years of experience have made them the best. If I hadn’t run into my problems with them, I would probably have gone with them again.

Sunrocket looked great. You got great phones for free. However, their router system is complicated. Sometimes I will pick up the phone and call someone and they won't be able to hear or understand me. I am either too faint or so garbled I sound like a being from another planet. The only way to fix this is to go through a ridiculous procedure of unplugging my modem, then the two routers and then plugging them all back in in a certain sequence.

I've seen a posting that Pluto (whoever that is) is in negotiations to rescuse Sunrocket. I've been a user for two years. At first it was problematic but the price and the lack of additional taxes & fees made it attractive enough to stay. Then in the fall they made some upgrades that really helped. The last 6 months have been very pleasing. -- I'm hoping that the rumor is true.

I think Sunrocket is still in business (for the time being), but from what I've read online, they are on the verge of bankruptcy. I have not been able to use my phone since 7pm (EST) last night. I called them, but their message says "We are not taking any customer service calls at this time". I suggest printing anything you need from their site including phone records (for tax purposes or other reasons), proof of your account, any monies that you have paid to them (if you can find it on their site), and change your credit card number to a fictitious one on their site (just in case they try to charge you something they shouldn't be.. Hey, you never can be too cautious.)

I SIGNED UP FOR SUNROCKET IN APRIL. I HAD VONAGE AND PACKET 8 THEY BOTH SUCKED. ALL WAS WELL WITH SUNROCKET UNTIL A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO. I HAVE A DIAL TONE BUT WHEN I MAKE OR RECEIVE A CALL, I CANNOT HEAR THE OTHER PERSON BUT THEY CAN HEAR ME. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RETRIEVE MY VOICEMAIL MESSAGES. I AM SO SCREWED IF THEY ARE OUT OF BUSINESS. I PAID MY TELEPHONE BILL FOR THE YEAR. I TRANSFERRED MY TELEPHONE NUMBER OF 4 YEARS AND MAY NEVER HAVE IT AGAIN. I AM SO UPSET. I HAVE LEARNED NEVER TRY TO TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT. BELLSOUTH HEAR I COME, THAT SUCKS... TOO.

the company supposedly went out of business. We are SOL and screwed. Companies like Packet8 and ViaTalk are now accepting SunRocket customers. But I am not sure if we can retain our numbers when we do the switch.

My husband signed us up for SunRocket in March, on a deal where he paid for the year up front. Now, in mid-July, we suddenly have no service. We can't receive calls or make calls, and haven't received any information from SunRocket as to what is going on. Do not sign up with this company.

unfriendly customer service. Can't tell the status during the phone number transfer and deny there was a request after 40 days.
