When promoting yourself and your book, sometimes you need to look at new ways of reaching your audience. Here are just a few ideas to consider.

Written a children’s book? Create your own puppet show and perform it in a library, church, fair, carnival, or children’s pizza place. Have your book available for sale.

Written a nonfiction book on travel? Reserve a room at a library, church, hotel or community center and decorate it in the theme of your book. Send out a creative invitation and invite people to come to your “Caribbean Resort” or “African Safari” (whatever theme is appropriate). Participants should dress for the occasion. Play music, serve delicious ethnic food, and provide entertainment, and a slide presentation to complement the occasion. Of course, have your books available for sale.

Written a romance novel? Hook up with a special gift shop or romantic restaurant and plan an event for couples. Make it an evening of romance with a carriage ride and a final destination where you can read from a chapter in your book, serve fancy appetizers, and sign books.

Written a mystery novel? Plan a night of mystery set in a similar setting as found in your book. Plan some fun “who-dunnit” games and puzzles, leaving clues about various characters and events in your book. The object is to provide enough of a “tease” to peak the interest of the potential book buyers.

Taking a creative and unique approach to reaching your audience will not only be fun, but it will also prove successful and enjoyable to all involved.
