The early years. Amy Lou Adams, the daughter of a U.S. serviceman, was born on August, 20, 1974 on a military base in Vicenza, Italy, where her father was stationed at the time. Along with her six siblings, she was raised in Castle Rock, Colorado (located midway between Denver and Colorado Springs), and is a graduate of Douglas County High School. Amy's first passion in the arts was dancing; thus after graduating from high school, she studied dance and shortly thereafter began a stint performing in regional dinner theater.
The Minnesota years. Amy Adams relocated to Minnesota in the late '90s after being hired by a producer to perform at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres (located just southwest of the Twin Cities). Indeed, time here was well spent, as it provided Amy with an opportunity to further hone her singing, dancing, and acting skills. (She appeared in numerous productions, including "Brigadoon" and "Good News.") In 1999, she landed her first movie role in the film, "Drop Dead Gorgeous," a comedy about a Minnesota beauty pageant starring Kirsten Dunst and Denise Richards.
The early '00s. Throughout the early '00s, Amy Adams guest starred in numerous television series, including episodes of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Providence", "Charmed," "That '70s Show, and "The West Wing." During this period she was also cast in the independent films, "The Chromium Hook" and "Psycho Beach Party." In 2002, Amy was cast in "Catch Me If You Can," a film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Though her role as DiCaprio's love-struck fiancé was small, it was memorable, and no doubt caught the attention of various casting directors and other industry players.
