For those of you who choose to forego that ambivalent nature surrounding the healthiness of the pig. You may have been left with only the lettuce and tomato of a once delicious and meat filled BLT. They have gone from bacon and eggs to just lonely eggs in the morning. What is this person to do that has chosen the healthy route. Must one constantly be reminded that in order to be healthy, taste is not an option? There are few people that recognize that there is another option to pork bacon and it includes great taste and versatility.

Turkey Bacon. There are several options in that area. The three major contenders are Butterball, Jennie O and Louis Rich.

Now if the plan is to be totally pork free then Butterball has to be eliminated it contains natural pork flavorings. As far as taste goes its okay. It tries really hard to pass of that pork flavoring but it lends itself to be a poor substitute. Basically, Butterball just reminds you that you are trying to find a substitute for pork bacon. That is not acceptable if one is seeking a taste explosion.

Jennie O on the other hand is full turkey bacon. Its a combination of white and dark meat and it is bland. I only recommend Jennie O if that is all your budget will allow. Jennie O also has a tendency to be rubbery, for lack of a better word.

Of course I have saved the best for last. Louis Rich Turkey Bacon. It is by far the best of the three and the best that I've tasted ever. You have the option of cooking it chewy, not rubbery or crisp and crunchy. It is 100% turkey and it is comprised of light and dark meat as well. It has the best look and the best flavor it is smoky and in no way tries to imitate pork bacon. Louis Rich has a flavor of its own and it is proud of it. The cost is about average for any pack of name brand pork bacon but it has so much less fat. Although it has been some time since I've eaten pork bacon I'd have to say it tastes a whole heck of a lot better. And so much more healthier. Hands Down Louis Rich turkey bacon is the best choice. Also it transitions into recipes that call for bacon excellently.
Enjoy
