An authentic anything in Las Vegas is something to cheer about from the rooftops. Glimmer and lights, false securities and scams, that is the true Vegas that few tend to either see or believe. So, it is no surprise to find the same deception among restaurants. On every corner you see signs and more signs from restaurants claiming they are the best this or the best that. Until my recent visit to Buzz BBQ on Ann Road in Northwest Las Vegas, I swore there was no authenticity left in Vegas. Now I am a reborn believer and a die hard fan of smoked barbecue.

From the signing to the décor, there is nothing fancy about Buzz BBQ. Simple taste resounds in everything from the mass produced utility tables used for dining, to the old fashioned ice cream case that holds Italian ice of all flavors. A TV, some knick knacks here and there and one family restroom rounds out the style; bland to say the least. But, the style is the only thing bland at Buzz BBQ.

The menu offers salads, sandwiches, lunch combos and side items a la carte. After looking through the entire menu, sandwiches and sides were the choices. With names like Twisted Pig and Texas Tornado, who could choose anything different? The lunch meals were served with a drink and a choice of a side. On this day, the sides we tried were the rice and black eyed peas, BBQ baked beans, potato salad and macaroni and cheese.

The meals arrived in no time at all and they were served in Styrofoam containers. The sandwiches were overflowing with meat and the sides were the perfect size to complete a meal.

The Texas Tornado is a sandwich of 1 ½ pounds of meat piled onto a bun. With a spicy, yet smoky BBQ sauce this sandwich was one for the history books. The meat melted in the mouth and the sauce was to die for. Absolutely amazing.

The Twisted Pig is a combination sandwich of pulled pork and sausage piled high onto a bun as well. Again, the meat was the most tender I had ever tasted. Not one bit of fat was thrown in and the sausage literally left me speechless.
