Dirty Sexy Money Starring Peter Krause

"The love of money is the root of all evil. That's what they say anyway. Money makes everything go wrong." (Dirty sexy money, that is...)

So says Nick George (Peter Krause) at the beginning of ABC's Dirty Sexy Money. Nick is a young lawyer who vows he will never work for the powerful Darling clan, the wealthiest family in New York City. For decades, Nick's father was employed by the Darlings to take care of their sordid and complicated family business (often at the expense of his own family's happiness.)

Nick's father Dutch dies unexpectedly in a plane crash, so Tripp Darling (Donald Sutherland), the patriarch of the family, approaches Nick about the job. Nick has loftier goals for his life and is determined not to fill his dad's shoes; however, he is tempted to accept by the cash Tripp offers to donate to Nick's favorite causes, and to his wife Lisa's dismay, he ends up accepting the position.

When it appears that the plane crash that killed his dad might not have been an accident, Nick's new job also allows him to stay close to the Darlings as he tries to unravel the mystery of his father's death.

Dirty Sexy Money was devised by the capable Craig Wright, who worked with Peter Krause on Six Feet Under, and created the role of Nick George with Krause in mind. Wright has populated the show with a lively cast of characters played by some terrific actors. At the top of the list is Donald Sutherland as head of the clan, Tripp Darling. Sutherland makes this complicated and manipulative character seem sympathetic and human. Wife Letitia Darling is played by the warm and wonderful Jill Clayburgh (always a delight to see Clayburgh turn up on the screen.) who brings a lot of dimension to her role as the frustrated, privileged wife.

Other standouts on Dirty Sexy Money include Natalie Zea as Karen Darling, the darling daughter who is much married, unlucky in love and carrying a big torch for first love Nick. (Will Karen steal Nick away from his gentle, soft spoken and loving wife Lisa, played by pretty Zoe McLellan? We'll just have to keep watching to see what happens...)
