National Eating Disorder Association Announces Benefit Dinner Honorees
The National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) announced today in a press release that they will be honoring Jamie-Lynn Sigler, from The Sopranos, Dr. Thomas Insel, Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Leslie Lipton, author of Unwell, and Dove at their annual benefit dinner, Connect for the Cause, on Thursday, November 29th. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. with a dinner immediately afterwards at 7:30 p.m. This benefit event will be held at the Jumeirah Essex House in New York City.
The press release noted that Deborah Belfatto, Patty Jewett, Phoebe and Edmund Megna and Dorothy and John Sprague were the tri-state co-chairs of the benefit, and that Diana Williams from WABC-TV news, and a National Eating Disorder Association board member, will emcee, and Steve Adubato, Ph.D., Channel 13 anchor and MSNBC media analyst will act as host for the live auction.
The November 26, 2007 press release noted that Leslie Lipton, author of Unwell, and a Barnard College student, will receive NEDA's Young Advocate Award for her efforts in New York City educating young people about the ramifications of eating disorders. Jamie-Lynn Sigler, perhaps better know as Meadow Soprano in the HBO series The Sopranos, is being honored for her fundraising and consciousness raising work for research into eating disorders. Dr. Insel was chosen for the honor for his work in bringing eating disorders to the forefront of the national mental health arena. Dove will receive The Corporate Responsibility Award from NEDA, the Academy for Eating Disorders and the Eating Disorders Coalition for its campaign to inform girls and women about how important it is to value themselves.
