Hatha yoga is simple stretching exercises that mimic animals. In the beginning of each animal pose there is a small outline of the magical correspondence of each animal.

I have taught hatha yoga to children in classes at Pagan events and it is part of my lesson plan with in Nature's magical children classes. This is a fun way to get children to use their imaginations while learning a healthy stretching exercise. Have children dress in comfortable clothing, that are easy for them to move in. place non slip mats on the floor for each child. If this isn't possible a large area rug is good. Do not use a blanket on a hard wood floor, the rug will slide under their feet.

FROG:

Frogs are small creatures that live equally in water as well as land. They are powerful jumpers.

Basic yoga frog pose:

Squat down on the floor, if you cannot squat with your feet flat, open your knees and place your hands on the floor in front of you. Try to hold your heels down as you hold the pose.

Frog jumps pose:

Begin in the frog pose and try to jump as high as you can, landing on your feet. See how high you can jump as you practice.

HAWK:

The hawk is a powerful flier and lives in swamps, deserts and a variety of biomes. Hawks build their nest high in the trees out of sticks, bark and leaves.

Basic hawk pose:

1. Squat down on the floor, open knees wide and bring your arms inside the legs and grab the ankles.

2. Stretch your back (spine) out when you inhale (breath in) bringing head down to the floor as far as you can exhale (breath out).

3. After holding the pose for a while, bring head back up, straighten back and sit comfortable and take a deep breath.

Bird balance pose:

Stand up straight, focus on something in front of you, balance up on your toes, leaning forward slightly bring arms behind you and the stretch arms to the side like wings in flight. Hold while breathing in and out hold for a few seconds release and relax.

SWAN:

The swan is the most beautiful and graceful bird. They make a loud trumpet noise. They eat water plants, like cattails and pondweeds, they choice a mate for life and their nest are made on top of muskrats dens.
