Making homemade Christmas ornaments is a yearly holiday tradition in my house. We make all kinds of homemade ornaments for Christmas. One of my absolute favorite Christmas ornaments to make is cinnamon ornaments. These look really great with a country theme, but cinnamon ornaments go with practically any type of decorated Christmas tree.

The best thing about cinnamon ornaments is the scent. Homemade scented Christmas ornaments are the best kinds of Christmas ornaments to make. When you hang cinnamon ornaments on your Christmas tree, the entire room will smell divine. Your house will have a comforting, home baked scent the entire Christmas season.

Another great thing about these cinnamon ornaments is that they are easy Christmas ornaments to make. Kids have no trouble at all making scented cinnamon ornaments. Plus, cinnamon ornaments are very inexpensive. They would also make very special Christmas presents.

Cinnamon Ornaments Dough Ingredients (Makes over a dozen homemade Christmas ornaments)

3/4 cup applesauce
1 cup cinnamon (about 4 ounces)
2 tablespoons white school glue (optional)
optional- 1 tablespoon cloves, nutmeg, or allspice or any combination of the spices

If the applesauce that you're using is really thin or watery, strain it through a colander or some coffee filters before using for the homemade cinnamon ornaments dough.

Mix the dry ingredients together first in a bowl. Next, add applesauce and glue. Stir together and mix well with hands for about 2 minutes. This should form a soft dough about the consistency of play dough. If too wet, add about a tablespoon of cinnamon at a time until it's the right consistency. If it's too dry, add a couple tablespoons of applesauce at a time until it becomes soft and pliable.

Divide the cinnamon ornaments dough into four pieces. Place each ball of dough onto wax paper that has been liberally sprinkled with cinnamon. Cover it with plastic wrap or wax paper. Use a rolling pin, can, or glass to roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick.

Takeaways
  • Homemade scented ornaments are the best Christmas ornaments to make.
  • Homemade Christmas ornaments make great gifts.
  • Cinnamon ornaments can be refreshed by using cinnamon fragrance oil.
