Is Pantene Pro-V Bad for Your Hair?

As a consistent fan of Pantene Pro-V products, you can imagine my surprise when I was first told that Pantene products are not healthy for your hair. The first time that I heard it, my first assumption was that my hairstylist was trying to
sell me a new hair product and just wanted to bash Pantene Pro-V to do so. Over the years, I have gone to several stylists and they have all said the same exact thing - that Pantene Pro-V is not healthy for your hair. The reason that they all gave me was because Pantene Pro-V strips your hair of its natural oils. To me, that didn't sound like such a bad thing. Who really wants oily hair? After a little bit of research, I learned some information that any fan of Pantene Pro-V products may be interested in knowing.

Pantene Pro-V Promotes Build-Up

The main reason that Pantene Pro-V products are often recognized as bad for your hair is because they are known to promote excess build-up in the hair. Over time, enough excess build-up from Pantene Pro-V can cause bigger problems, such as dandruff. You are probably wondering where the excess build-up comes from. Well, many of the chemicals that are used in Pantene Pro-V shampoos and conditioners are known to be harder to remove from the hair than chemicals used in other hair care products. This is why Pantene Pro-V promotes excess build-up in the long run.

Pantene Pro-V Can Still Be Used

While Pantene Pro-V is known to promote build-up, you do not need to discontinue the use of Pantene products. Most hairstylists recommend that you do not use the same hair products at all times, so that your scalp does not become overly adjusted to one. Such is true with Pantene Pro-V products. Changing hair products regularly and frequently is one of the best things that you can do in order to prevent excess build-up caused by Pantene products. Another thing that you can do in order to ensure that Pantene does not cause build-up in your hair is use a clarifying shampoo once to twice a week.

okay with pantene it coats your hair with wax! but not all "salon" brands are that great either! some of them you are better off getting a drug store brand! do research, and some stylist are trying to just sell you products just to get money if that is how you feel then ask alot of questions know what you will ask before you go in! and if they really aren't trying to tell you the pro's and con's of products then it might not be worth buy!

This article and whoever believes it is full of fail. The beauty industry relies on gullible consumers like you and most of the commentors below to line their pockets. Do some research from unbiased scientific professionals, and maybe then I'll take you seriously. http://thebeautybrains.com/?s=pantene

I also wanted to strictly point out that prodfessional's who believe that hair gets used to products or becomes immune to them are not educated properly or are not explaining the situation correctly. Weather changes which effect the skin and the sebum production (oil) in the skin can cause some products to no longer be able to keep up or can make products harmful. Hair is not like viruses or bacteria who over mutation can develope immunities and combat products. If you know you have a good product for summertime, save it (no more than 1 year) and buy something thta is more moisturizing for winter if hair becomes to dry. Then next summer when you feel kinda greasy, go ahead and bring out a less heavy conditioner so you don't feel that way. Changing products can be effective in some ways but usually only because one product may be greasy so you switch, it helps for a short time only because it has an alchohol filler and dries the old problem up, eventually the new product ruins hair.

As a professional and former user of Suave and Pantene, I can tell you it is a fact the wax fillers in Pantene will cause severe wax buildup on hair. It cannot strip hair oils, because hair does not produce oil, but the glands in the hair shaft do. Hair cannot and does not become immune to or used to products. A products effectiveness is attributed to changes in hair structure (ie, perming, coloring) and weather. You should not use pantene as it is not capable of removing it's own wax build up. Although using a clarifying shampoo can ease this build up it will not stop it, and personally I wouldn't use a product if it meant I had to use another product to keep it from destroying my hair. Additionally wax build up causes hair to clump when wet, tangle to the point of getting stuck while combing, and leaves hair lifeless, dull and sticky. It never feels clean. A better alternative that isn't expensive is Aussie or Finess.
