Household products aren't always used exclusively for their intended purpose, and Dawn Dishwashing Liquid is one of those products. Dawn Dishwashing Liquid has been used to clean the feathers and fur of animals that have become victims of oil spills, and Dawn Dishwashing Liquid has proven to be a very safe and versatile product in and around the home as well. The following information provides alternative uses for Dawn Dishwashing Liquid. Chances are you'll be able to utilize this wonderful grease-cutting product for a number of fantastic purposes other than washing dishes.

Greasy Hair Problems

Finding a child with chunks of petroleum jelly or half a bottle of baby oil rubbed into their hair is a nightmare to say the least. Even ordinary shampoo won't cut completely through the grease, but Dawn Dishwashing Liquid can. My neighbor's two year old son recently smeared an entire jar of petroleum jelly into his hair, and nothing would completely get it out until his father tried Dawn Dishwashing Liquid. This alternate cleaning product is mild enough to use on the hair and strong enough to remove the most stubborn grease. Dawn Dishwashing Liquid made an easy job of an otherwise greasy mess.

Laundry Pretreatment

Many of the stains that end up on clothes are oil-based, and I've been disappointed many times by products that are suppose to remove them. I eventually quit buying expensive laundry pretreatment products because I've found a fantastic alternative. I use Dawn Dishwashing Liquid on oil-based and protein stains. What better product to remove greasy food stains than something that is typically used to clean dishes? It's one of the best alternate uses I've found. I keep a squirt bottle filled with Dawn Dishwashing Liquid next to the washing machine, and I treat all stains before washing the clothes. My family's clothes look cleaner than ever since discovering this wonderful alternative product that has so many more uses than expected.

Laundry Soap Alternative

Did You Know?
For more than 20 years, Dawn Dishwashing Liquid has been used to clean the skin and feathers of birds that have come in contact with oil spills. It must be gentle if it can be used to clean the delicate skin and feathers of birds.

I have used Dawn for many things in the past. It is great at dissolving any oily problem. Once I had a car that leaked a little oil on the concrete drive where it was parked. Be careful at walking after it is applied, however, because it gets rather slick until it is washed off completely. If it is outside, it can be sprayed off and it doesnt hurt the yard. Another couple of uses.....removing crayon from wallpaper and gum from clothing. I had some rather nice and expensive (for me anyway) wallpaper when my daughter was little. I used a steam iron (put a towel on the wall first to protect the paper) briefly to help melt the crayon. Dont let it set too long or it will unglue the paper. Wipe the paper to remove most of the crayon. Dawn came to the rescue for the oily and colorful residue left over. I just poured it straight on the paper and wiped it off with a damp sponge. Gone and the paper wasnt damaged or unglued. (the kid thought she was after I was finished with the paper though.

These are great tips! I used Dawn to kill gypsy moth caterpillars on the outside of my house. It didn't hurt the paint, the grass or the other creatures in my yard.

After trying just about every dishwashing product on the market, I found Dawn to be the very best at disolving grease. I mix it with amonia and water for when cleaning walls and woodwork. Also great for cutting smokers' cigarette tar. I'll have to try it on the cloths as it would be much cheaper and probably more effective. Very informative. Thanks. *****

I know how well it works since I use it, too. One of the things I use it for most is to get the grease stains off my hands after working on my truck. Dawn is cheaper than that orange gunk and works well. Although it does dry out your hands quickly if you use it too much.
