A victim of sweaty underarms for years, I can tell you, sweating a lot is no easy thing to deal with. A tendency towards sweaty underarms can ruin your clothes and cause you to shun white shirts because you fear they will only get yellow too quickly and cause you to waste your money. There are many things you can do about sweaty armpits and sweating a lot in general. But it's just as important not to do some things. Here's what not to do if you sweat a lot.

Don't think about it.

Often, one of my biggest problems when dealing with sweat was the fact that I thought about it a lot. Because I knew I could yellow a shirt at the drop of a dime and overcome most deodorants in about a half hour, I'd start to get nervous. Then I'd start sweating even more than I normally would if I had not thought about sweat.

So you can't think about sweating. And that takes practice because even if you think about not thinking about sweating, you'll probably still sweat because you're thinking so hard while trying not to think. You have to wake up with the word "sweat" not even in your mind. And you will only do that once you become more confident that you can control the problem.

Don't wear close fitted clothing without some type of protection

By protection I am referring to dress shields, sweat guards, or Certain Dri deodorant. If you are a lady, and you're interested in wearing the latest sexy gauzy shirt, don't do it if you don't have something to protect your clothing from getting yellowed and smelly. If you wear the shirt anyway, you'll only get more nervous as you feel the wetness underneath your arms. Then, you'll get discouraged about wearing a pretty shirt the next time.

Don't deny the power of antiperspirants

There is an antiperspirant out there for you. Whether it is Certain Dri, Secret, Degree, or something prescribed by your doctor, it's out there. So embrace antiperspirants.

It may take you some time to experiment with different types. But a good antiperspirant will help you as you battle the anxiety that comes with your sweating. Personally, I prefer Degree on my normal days. If I want to wear something close fitting, I go for Certain Dri.

Don't get discouraged
