Cell Leader Captured in Al Saker

According to Multi National Forces-Iraq, U.S. Special Force helped Iraqi Security Forces in missions in which an individual was captured that is thought to be a cell leader. During the two missions two other individuals were also captured. The missions were located in Al Saker and Tikrit.

U.S. Forces along with the 5th Iraqi Army Division were able to capture an individual in Al Saker village during a mission involving a search of a supposed al Qaeda in Iraq safe house. The suspect is thought to be an al Qaeda in Iraq leader. Another suspect was also detained during the mission.

It is thought that the terrorist organization is connected to and involved in killings and kidnappings as well as building improvised explosive devices and placing them in the area.

In another mission U.S. Special Forces and Iraqi Security Forces captured an individual in Tikrit. The suspect is thought to be connected to improvised explosive device attack as well as other attacks involving car bombs, mortars, and rocket propelled grenades. The attacks were on Coalition and Iraqi forces. He is also thought to be connected to multiple kidnappings in the area.

There were no reports of any military injuries during the missions.

In other operations, U.S. Special Forces and Iraqi Special Operations Forces worked together to detain individuals known to be al Qaeda in Iraq terrorists. They were captured during a mission in Baghdad.

The mission consisted of U.S. and Iraqi forces storming an area in Ameriya and breaking up terrorist operations and detaining the three individuals. The three were thought to be involved in a cell that attacks military forces with the aid of rockets, improvised explosive devices, and small arms fire. They are thought to be the ones that fired the Katyusha rockets at Baghdad International Airport, and are connected to the killing of Iraqi civilians.
