A large amount of our thoughts focus on wealth on a daily basis. Kids learn from their parents the importance of wealth from the time they were young, as parents tend to shower their kids with gifts in exchange of the attention they need. The way parents communicate to their kids of what are the valuable things in life, their kids will grow up to emulate them later on.

Therefore if parents associate wealth with money, their kids' preference in life will evolve in terms of money. If parents express wealth as love and spending quality time, their priorities in life will develop in these areas.

Wealth does not just relate to possessions, owning properties or having huge bank account. Sad to say, today's society put a great emphasis on material wealth than intangible wealth such as maintaining good family relationships and spending valuable time with them.

Many can say that having lots of wealth is important, but just imagine you developed a terminal illness like cancer. How much money are you willing to give up for it to go away? When we are healthy, wealth seems to be of great importance above the other things in our life. But once we are given a wake up call like having a terminal disease, wealth does not mean a thing to us anymore. Should we wait until something like that to hit us to reexamine the substance of our wealth. Like what Charles Caleb Colton (1780 - 1832) British clergyman, and sportsman said "money is the most envied, but the least enjoyed. Health is the most enjoyed, but the least envied."

As Robert Kennedy mentioned, "genuine wealth" are the things that makes life worthwhile. What is the point of being wealthy in terms of cash but without any friends? True friends and family cannot be bought or sold, for that reason there are rich people who are very lonely. A person may have more money than his other friends but that does not make a difference between them. What is important is being able to do what we want in life freely. Money is something temporary but the value of wealth stays permanent within us.
