Winter is just around the corner. Winter brings with it many people argue about if they are good are bad such as snow, ice, and cold. What everyone agrees upon though is that the flu season winter brings with it is not fun. Here are some tips to limit it's effects in your home. According to a newly released national survey of mothers, the best way to limit the negative affects of the flu is to keep your home clean to protect against the cold and flu causing germs. This survey was conducted by The Alliance for Consumer Education, and the results were listed in a recent press release from the organization. This is the second year that The Alliance for Consumer Education has conducted the survey, it was first conducted two years ago in 2005. There have been significant changes in the view of survey participants since that first survey. Only 2005, only 23 percent of survey participants flet that keeping their house clean was the best way to protect against colds and flu, this year the percentage was up to 32 percent.
Helping to keep your children protected from the flu doesn't mean just cleaning your home, but also cleaning the objects that your children bring into the home. Back in 2005 only 44 percent of survey participants said they cleaned the surface of their children's toys regularly. That percentage is now up to 56 percent in 2007, helping to protect their children.
"The ACE 2007 Germs survey clearly illustrates that mothers understand the threat of exposure to those germs that can cause colds and flu and are taking steps to minimize that threat and protect their families," said Joseph M. Healy, who is Chairman of the Board for Alliance for Consumer Education. "One of the simplest, most effective things that people can do to minimize the risks from germs is to frequently wash their hands and clean their homes and places of work on a regular basis. It is gratifying to see that the percentage of moms who recognize the importance of home cleaning continues to rise. At the same time, still more consumer education needs to be done to continue raising overall awareness of the importance of home cleaning.", continued Healy.
