Vector Marketing / Cutco: A Scam?

I just read an article about Vector Marketing/Cutco. This article is a petition against Vector Marketing/Cutco. After reading my article, if you agree you may go
here, read what they have to say, and sign the petition. In case you do not know, Vector Marketing/Cutco is a cutlery company Vector Marketing/Cutco works on an order-only basis. Vector/Marketing/Cutco "hires" their staff from kids just out of high school and just out of college. Now as smart and savvy kids nowadays may think they are, they need to realize that Vector Marketing/Cutco is using them. The workers are told that they will receive (as I knew the price) ten dollars for each appointment where they schedule and show the cutlery. This sounds like easy money, but these appointments are not as easy to get as one may think. They do not just "fall out of the sky." If you happen to have a large family that helps, however I do not know if the worker is restricted as to how many in their family they can have as appointments.

Another problem is the price of Vector Marketing/Cutco cutlery. It is very expensive. Unless you are a professional chef, you probably will not need cutlery of this quality.

The worker is "invited" to get some cutlery at a reduced price. Yes it is a good price but this is one way that Vector Marketing/Cutco is making their money. The worker needs to earn money not spend it.

Of course what Vector Marketing/Cutco is probably hoping the worker will do is go door-to-door and attempt to sell their product. I am glad my daughter realized this is dangerous.

The biggest problem with Vector Marketing/Cutco is that their office closes down after the summer that they hire you. There is no way to get in touch with them. My daughter's "office" had a good-bye party. She left a bowl there and tried to get it back. Obviously this was not possible.

If the worker wants to sell after the office has closed down, they may do so but must contact the main office and submit their order. When my daughter was working she was not even told how to go about doing this.

Cutco is not a scam, but it's not the kind of jobs that can earn you a good amount of money. TRUST ME! I know some of my friends who were recently hired and they all told me that they're really tired from running to different places each day just to sell some kitchen knifes. And the pay, like I just said, is not good at all: $17.5 per appointment and it's really difficult to find someone who's willing to purchase up to $300, not to mention a home-maker set that costs more than $900. The company managers talk a lot about enthusiasm and stuff, but the reality isn't as enthused as they think when it comes to buying knifes. So those of you who read my comment, please help spread the word. Everything I'm saying here is precisely what Cutco does for us--it wastes our precious time and money!

I just started working for Vector and I'll admit it's hard to make a sell but Vector has an A+ rating from the BBB (Better Business Bureau). Also we are told not to go door to door but to work off referrals.

Wow I've worked for Cutco since 1997. I've been scammed for 12 years!!!! Wow am I stupid. My mom and the other 300 customers that I have who were refferred to me now have all had the product for 10-12 years. They must all hate me for scamming them as well. I mean I sold them something and it works and they use it. WHAT A SCAM.

i work for vector marketing currently. this is most definitely not a scam. yes it use high school grads and college students to do the leg work, but that is what we get paid to do. Vector and Cutco are sister companies under the ALCAS corp. umbrella. Cutco make the product, we sell it. "Goodie" down below explains very well, so anything more i say is redundant. go and read all three of his posts.

I got a letter in the mail yesturday about the company and how they were hiring and how you need to call quickly because the job will fill fast. But to my surprise they had an opening for an interview two hours later. You have to pay for your own set of knifes and the gas it takes to get to every appointment! that is a total rip off. I mean i know people have had success and "love it" but really its just another way to get money from poor college kids and naive high school graduates.

This was cut off from below post. start reading 2 down I do not work for the company anymore because the truth is it does function as a high turn over employment but does not present it self as being anything but that. I will always stand by what is true and Cutco was one of those companies that takes bad press because it resembles other businesses that have acted poorly. I will always remember cutco and what it did for my life and just for they record sales are by appointment only we where not encouraged to go door to door, infact we where told it wasnt allowed. This was cut off below post......... Her sales in a very short period, from memory 3 months was $100.000. She sold to families with conviction because her belief that these knives saved the purchaser money. She was apart of my time there. first hand knowlege. Not some story that i was told to inspire me. At cutco i grew in myself. It brought me out of depression because of its belief in me and encouragement of me as a person. It also was responsible for training me as a public speaker, which i now teach people on how to find purpose, topics like identity and gender differences in relationships and why relationship dont succeed. The $10 per appointment is easy to come by and is only a back up. These knives are beautiful in design as they are to use. I was friendly and explained the knives and needed not to push a sale. If explained them well the knives soldl themselves. I do not work for the company anymore because the truth is it does function as a high turn over employment but

I worked for cutco and found the experience to be life changing. I made great friends and was encouraged regularly by all involved. Many of my family and strangers bought the knives varying from purchase. They are of high quality and continue to impress me years down they track. I have no regret or shame having sold this product to people. Cutco is a challenge and a good one at that. Yes it making appointments with people that you dont know and no it is not something that you just will succeed if you have a large family that give you symphathy purchases. Ill explain. These knives are designed not for chefs but for the home, designed to last forever, that is past your life time. They concentrate on the savings that good quality knive can help you achieve. The quality is first rate and exclusive. One house wife called Jade a single mother had a demonstration in her home and was so impressed that she joined the team. Her sales in a very short period, from memory 3 months was $100

Vector is just another one of those fortune 500 companies like the ones who allow you to work at home. It is just set up slightly differently. The job is marketed to students while the product is marketed to them and their families and everyone they know. They do not want to advertise (I don't know why; its a fantastic product and I know they got the money for it). The point I'm trying to make is that it is a job. Not a glamorous one but a job none-the-less. I is a job that offers 'cheap shots.' I would go so far as to call it a scam.
