The first ever CNN hosted debate where the candidates were given question via video on YouTube. It was a very interesting format and did even have a few spontaneous comedic moments. The debate was hosted by CNN's Anderson Cooper and he performed his duties as host exceptionally, and even held a couple of the candidate's feet to the fire on important issues.

It was a widely held belief that the campaigning would soon have to start going negative, but it was a bit surprising that it happened so soon into the debate. Mitt Romney was the first to attack Rudy Giuliani and accused the ex-mayor of New York of running a sanctuary city for illegal aliens. The accusation is true and Giuliani even filed a lawsuit against the Federal government when they tried to enforce immigration laws in the city.

Rudy Giuliani fired back at Romney with his own accusation that Romney hires illegal aliens to work in his mansion. It is an accusation which is blown a little out of proportion. Romney hired a contractor to do work at his mansion and allegedly the contractor hired illegal aliens to do the work.

The only other true attack took place between John McCain and Texas Congressman Ron Paul. McCain decided that he would mislabel Paul as an isolationist, which is a clear representation of the congressman's beliefs. McCain even went so far as to state that he was speaking for all of the military members. Not so fast John, I am one of those military guys and I am with Ron Paul all the way. Besides that Ron Paul receives the most donations of any candidate running. The attack was actually quite offensive and included the resurrection of Hitler for added affect.

Romney really found himself overwhelmed when the issues of gays in the military came up. Apparently at some point in the past Mitt was contemplating that gays and lesbians should be able to serve openly in the military, but he backed down and said that the time is not now.

I thought Nixon was the winner, tee-hee. No for real, Nick, that was a nice summary. As for "paul" (comment Number 7) saying that the media picks on Ron Paul, c'mon man, do you think the other candidates are HAPPY with the media? Nick Poma here is part of the media and I believe HE treated Ron Paul fairly! -- Mike

from LewRockwell.com: In the so-called "debates," why is it that the cheap-shot questions dredged up by the media seem to be directed only at Ron Paul? Perhaps these people have for so long been toadies to the establishment puppets that they are incapable of formulating such "wife-beating" inquiries for the other candidates to answer. In an effort to be helpful, we might offer these journalists some help. I have a modest set of questions for their consideration: Sen. Thompson: You are in this race due largely to your high visibility as a motion picture and television actor. If you are elected president, whose scripts will you be performing? Gov. Romney: You have either changed your positions or evaded answers on so many issues: will you be as wishy-washy a president as you are a campaigner? Gov. Huckabee: Why do you keep hiding behind Jesus in the campaign, and yet defend war and capital punishment; positions contrary to Jesus' teachings? Cong. Hunter: Can you think of a

I totally agree with your assessment. It did appear that Huckabee had the edge. Another well written piece Nick!

Looks like the MSM marching orders involve promoting Huckabee endlessly. Ron Paul had 2-3 questions and limited time. He still crushed them all (how come every article forgets to include his comeback to McCain which mentioned that Ron Paul gets more Military Contributions than any other candidate?). Mitt is dead after desecrating the Confederate flag. Many Southerns died under that flag. Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that "there's not a dime's worth of difference between" Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, banning books like "America Deceived' from Amazon, warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason. Support Dr. Ron Paul and save this great nation.
