Recently I had the chance to stay at the Red Roof Inn in Miamisburg, Ohio. Miamisburg and Centerville are two cities closely connected, and act as suburbs for the city of Dayton. In fact, the Dayton Mall is actually located in this area. As someone who grew up in the Dayton area, I haven't had the chance to stay in many of our local hotels until the last few months. Since then, I've had the chance to compare some of the local hotels, and Red Roof Inn was one of my better choices.

The Dayton-area Red Roof Inn has a nice and hospitable staff. While some local hotels have outlawed smoking in their rooms, the Red Roof Inn still has smoking rooms. Upon check in, the front desk operator was extremely nice and cheerful, even when I accidentally dropped my credit card onto the floor behind the desk.

The Red Roof Inn in Dayton has two buildings: one connected to the lobby, and a second further out. I was in the main building, and I'm not sure if I would like to stay in the other. Its directly next to an industrial building, and if the hotel employee had not told me they were together, I don't think I would have noticed. The main building has two floors of rooms, and all the rooms are exterior. This means that you do not have to walk through the lobby to get to the rooms, but some feel this is less safe.

My room was of the "suite" variety meaning that it was significantly larger than some of the other rooms. Instead of two double beds, there was one large king sized bed. They also included a microwave and small refrigerator, though no utensils or supplies were included in the room. There was also an odd L-shaped desk in the corner with data ports for computers, electrical outlets, and a desk lamp that was attached to the desk.

The Red Roof Inn in Dayton has an upscale appeal, yet it misses its mark by a little. The bathroom counters were faux marble, as were the bedside tables and the furniture seemed brand new. Despite that, the television was obviously an older model, and the bathroom is in need of an update.
