This is the forth month in a row that a Rasmussen Reports poll has shown an increase in the level of support for the War on Terror, but it is still below the highest it has been during the President's current term in office.

The latest figures show that 47% of the U.S. Citizens feel that the county and our allies are winning the War on Terror. Last month, the total was 43%. The support is now at the highest is has been since December 2005. The only other time it has been higher was in November 2005. The lowest level of support in 2007 was 33% and in 2006, it averaged 40%. The 2005 average was 45%.

The number who believe that the terrorists are winning has dropped to 24% from 30% last month and is the lowest it has been since 2004. The number who think that things will get better in Iraq is now at 35% and 32% say it will get worse. Three months ago the number who said things would get worse came in at 49% and only 23% said things would get better.

There is a big difference of opinion between men and women on this issue with 55% of the men saying we are winning and just 39% of the women agreeing with them. On whether or not things will get better over the next six months, men say yes by a margin of 45% to 28%. Women, on the other hand, expect things to get worse by a margin of 35% to 26%.

As is to be expected, there is a big difference of opinion between the parties with 73% of the Republicans, 24% of the Democrats and 4% of the independents saying they believe we are winning.

On the other side of the equation, 38% of the Democrats, 21% of the independents and 10% of the Republicans say that the terrorists are winning.

They asked the respondents to take a look into the future and tell what they think will be written in the history books about the war and 36% say it will be thought of as being a success and 44% saying it will be viewed as a failure. Although this is a negative result, it is still much better than it was back in July when only 27% said it would be looked at as a success and 56% saying failure.

Well I never did have much confidence in most Americans' ability to understand foreign policy or what their govt. was doing illegally overseas. Polls like this make me realize how right I was.
