Last year I spent well over $200.00 on my daughters Christmas presents. Then spent two hours trying to convince her the shape sorting pots and pans were more fun than the wrapping paper and box. I learned my lesson and made a mission this year to make sure i get my children stuff they will actually play with. My oldest daughter is 2 years and my youngest is 6 months, so its going to be a challenge. I noticed that while my first daughter never chewed on anything, (not a teether, or toy or finger or ANYTHING) my second will put anything and everything in her mouth. So i have a good idea what to do for her. Throughout the year, my 2 year old loved My little Pony's and Blues Clues, but has recently changed to Littlest Pet Shop and Doodle bops. So while she will get a little pony and a blues clues, they wont be the stars in this years toy parade.

First things first, Age guides on toys are just that, GUIDES! Littlest pet shop toys say for ages 3+, but my daughter is 31 months old. (2.5 years) She doesn't put anything in her mouth and I play with her alot, so the safety issue with the small pieces is nil and the "complicated parts" some of the toys have are remedied by me showing her how to work them and playing with her. On the other hand, if you see a singing game like the fisher price "star Station" for ages 3+ but your child doesn't like to talk or sing, then this may not be the toy to get, even if hes older than the recommended age.

Second, keep interests in mind. Now this may seem obvious, but you'll be surprised at how many people have to go out and get the TMX Elmo because its the big thing, only to realize that she only wants to play with her older sisters "Dora knows your name" doll. (when they then remember that she wont get out of her pajamas until she gets to watch Dora the explorer every day at 6:30 in the morning.)

With those in mind, here is a list of toys Ive found alot of the toddlers and infants i know enjoy, and then ones to be cautious with.
