I'm a self proclaimed freebie junkie. If it's free, and gives me the opportunity to try a product before I buy it, I'm all over it like white on rice. My mailbox is normally stuffed to the brim with samples from every corner of the United States, ranging from free clothing to free food. And what's not to love about free food? Nearly a week ago, I opened my mailbox to find a package from Betty Crocker® taking up what little space I had left next to the rest of my junk mail. The label on the box proclaimed it to be "Betty Crocker® Warm Delights Minis; Chocolate Raspberry Decadence".I had actually stopped to peruse this item more than once while on various shopping trips, and it had never appealed to me enough to get me to buy one for myself. I mean, certainly, I LOVE cake. And I love cake that I don't have to bake, and decorate, then devour a whole one by myself because my husband doesn't eat it, and my children shouldn't be exposed to that much of it. But each time I perused, I walked away without it. There was just something about it that kept me from reaching out and snagging it, and I could never put my finger on what it was.
And now I know what it was. I was afraid that I would become addicted to them. That they would become my keeper in a rotting little cell, with me in the corner begging for just one more bite, that I needed it, that I would do anything for it. Whew, I'm glad I managed to stay away from those things for so long. And my first experience with them kept me from being too snagged by the inevitable hook of longing.
Firstly, they came in a nifty little package. Two four-bites-if-you're-lucky bowls were shrink wrapped into a yellow cardboard wrapping showing a delicious forkful of what was to come on the front, while it proclaimed in flirtatious purple lettering that it was ONLY 150 calories per bowl. Only? Well, I'll be! Might as well give it a shot, right?
