Generalized anxiety disorder is a common condition with varying degrees of severity. Some people are afflicted only with the occasional bouts of uncontrollable worrying, while others worry constantly and often have full-blown panic attacks. People suffering from this anxiety disorder often times bec
ome isolated because their friends and family do not understand or acknowledge their illness. Unfortunately, this is the reason so many people do not seek help for this condition. Generalized anxiety disorder is a manageable condition with the right treatment.

To effectively manage generalized anxiety disorder, you need to recognize the symptoms. People with generalized anxiety disorder can have a wide range of symptoms. While the most common symptom is constant worrying, other symptoms can include weight loss, inability to concentrate, fatigue, muscle tension, and headaches. Also, if the person suffering from the anxiety disorder has a panic attack, the symptoms can include chest pain, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. These symptoms are similar to those of a heart attack, and it is not at all uncommon for someone suffering from a panic attack to take themselves to the emergency room under the impression that they are having heart problems.

The good news is that this anxiety condition is very treatable and manageable if proper medical attention is sought. Typically, this medical attention consists of talking to your family doctor about the continuous worry that you are experiencing, and allowing them to place you on an anti-anxiety medication and refer you to a psychiatrist. Many people believe that it is shameful to be placed on a medication to help you deal with your anxiety. Many people also believe that these medications do not work, or that they are habit forming. None of these things are true, so do not let these beliefs stop you from seeking the help that you need.
