What Your Netflix Movie-Watching Habits Say About You

How You Watch Says as Much as What You Watch

Once upon a time, there was the internet, and things were good. Then there was Netflix, which broke the movie-borrowing mold and allowed people to have movies delivered to their home. Customers would check out a certain number at a time, and as they returned movies, they would get new ones that they wanted to watch. Some people, like my friend Greg, would check movies out for a month at a time and simply revel in the fact that they never had to pay late fees, and because keeping a single movie for 3 weeks after the due date can easily run you upwards of 50 dollars at any rental place with a physical address). Others would rush home at noon and immediately watch all their films, run them down to the postal drop box with the latest pickup time, and thereby get as many movies as humanly possible from their subscription. I'll be honest-I was that type, and I still am. I still feel like I'm not getting the most from my account if I keep a film more than a day. My habits say just as much about me as my actual rental history-what do yours say about you?

Your queue

Has 5-25 items in it: You're laid back and don't really worry about what's going to come tomorrow-- you'll deal with it tomorrow. You don't like making big decisions any earlier than you have to, and you don't enjoy feeling pressured. You like to relax, but you might not have enough time to do everything that you want to do.

Has 26-150 items in it: You're the guy or gal next door. You have a reasonable idea of what you want from the future, but you're not morally opposed to little changes here and there, because you have a few backup alternatives. You know what you like, and you don't want to stray too much from your tried and true forms of enjoyment. You shouldn't be afraid to try something completely new-- you never know. You might like it.

Great article! I have Netflix, of which I'm very happy. I Donot have cable, so I watch alot of movies. I am one of those 125 in my queue, return them the next day kind of Netflixers! By the way, for Baby-Boomers, they have ALOT of the old TV shows. I'm half way through DALLAS. However, Buck Rogers, just wasn't the same as when I first saw it. Also, they have the Best selection of Christian movies!

Geez, this is a wonderful article. I personally, am the type of Netflix-er who keeps over 400 movies in queue at all times, though I am constantly moving and swapping out films all the time. This was a great insight into the movie watching habits of others. Terrific!

Enjoyed your article. I just increased our Netflix account so we could catch-up on our ever-increasing queue!

I loved this article! I had to immediately check my queue and we have 222 movies. Netflix replaced cable television for my family three years ago and have never looked back.(Hubby and I were just discussing last night that the best part is NO COMMERCIALS ever).

Great article! I love Netflix, but I never get around to watching the DVDs I rent right away. I was on the 3 at a time plan once, and I kept one DVD for 6 months before I finally took the time to watch it. I'm better at it now.

If it's a joke, it went on way too long. As for what any of that really says about you -- nada.
