This may sound a really strange choice of favorite Christmas song for me because I love my husband dearly and adore living in America. However, Christmas morning is one of the saddest moments for me when I phone my daughter, her husband, and the two girls. It just breaks my heart not being with them for the holidays. Next I phone my 91-year-old Dad and I break his heart for not being with him.

Christmas in England was always a family time and both Len's family and mine would be sitting at our dining table. I would cook the turkey, sausage meat stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, and 7 or 8 vegetables. We would finish up with Christmas pudding with fresh cream, custard, or brandy butter.

Often it would be snowing or extremely cold there, and when I listen to Elvis singing the song, my mind drifts back to those cold winter days over the Christmas period. After living in Florida for almost 20 years there is no way I could suffer the cold weather. My daughter told me 2 weeks ago that they had a light flurry of snow.

So when I hear:

"I'll have a blue christmas without you.
I'll be so blue just thinking about you.
Decorations of red on a green christmas tree
Won't be the same dear, if your not here with me.

And when those blue snowflakes start falling
That's when those blue memories start calling
You'll be doing all right, with your christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue blue blue christmas.

music

You'll be doing all right, with your christmas of white,
But 'Ill have a blue, blue christmas.

It makes me sad to know that I will be 4,500 miles from my family again this Christmas but I am happy to know that I can always phone my family on Christmas day and any other day of the year that I want to. I can send them Christmas cards and presents and get to hear what my granddaughters think of them

Yes, Elvis you sound so sad when you sing this song, and the words can bring tears to my eyes but this is a wonderful Christmas song and has to be my favorite song of all time.

Lyrics and music by Billy Hayes and Jay Johnson. Song runs 2.08 minutes.

Aww, I like this song too, but not because it's really a "blue" Christmas morning for me. Sorry you cannot be with your family. Nice piece and merry Christmas.

What touching meaning behind your song. I know that you will be with your family in spirit, and you and Len will have a wonderful Christmas. The traditional family celebration sounded so wonderful, no wonder you will miss your family and the traditions. Merry Christmas.
