Although you aren't obligated to buy your boss a holiday gift, it can be a way to show your appreciation - provided it is an appropriate but thoughtful gift. Getting the wrong gift may be worse than buying no gift at all, and spending too much on one will make your boss suspicious. So how do you buy your boss an inexpensive, work-appropriate gift? Here are 10 gift ideas that are sure to please your boss:

1. Gourmet Coffee from Gevalia. This is a relatively inexpensive gift that can be given to any boss. Gevalia, otherwise known as Gevalia Kaffe, is a gourmet coffee company located in Gävle, Sweden, and hosts a variety of blends and flavors to suit many tastes. Currently, they can only be mail-ordered online. They may be ordered as part as a gift basket, in individual 8oz boxes, or by the case, and prices ranges from $5.95 to over $100. Opt for the individual boxes and choose from the Gevalia Roasts Collection - there is a chance your boss won't like the other varied flavors, so keep it safe and simple. The prices for this collection range from $5.95 - $6.95.

2. A gift certificate. These are easy to get (you can go to any store and easily buy this, including Wal-Mart and Target) and can be placed in a holiday card for easy storing. Not sure what sort of gift certificate to buy? Cater it to their tastes and their profession. For example, buying a gift certificate to a spa would be ideal for a female boss involved in the beauty industry, but not ideal for your male boss in manufacturing. Ask fellow co-workers about his/her interests and buy a gift certificate that complements that. Still not sure what to buy? Buy a gift certificate to an "American-Casual" restaurant, such as Applebees or Chili's. These will please any boss, regardless of their tastes or profession. Remember to keep it under $25 also, so your boss doesn't become suspicious of your extra spending.

Did You Know?
Keep it professional, cheap, and simple - buying the wrong gift can be more damaging than buying no gift at all.

It's the small things that count. I bought my boss a multi-screwdriver that he still thanks me for.

I think we did do the same C4C. Great minds... :) I like the Swiss Army Golf Tool Kit. You've gotta love multi-functioning gadget gifts!
